Atlas Announces Record-Breaking Summer of Premieres
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Indy Production Powerhouse Premieres Over 50 Original Episodes of Programming; Multiple Series; More Start Ups
New York, NY (July 28, 2004) – Atlas Media Corp., the award-winning New York City-based reality-documentary production company is burning up the Summer of ’04 with a giant slate of series and specials—premiering over 50 episodes of original programming—including Young, Sexy & Spoiled, Breaking Vegas, ToolBox, Dr. G: Medical Examiner, and two new seasons of the hit Top 5 series.
The highly-anticipated Young, Sexy & Spoiled, an all-access look at the cultural phenomenon of today’s modern superstars whose antics keep the tabloids busy and demands keep their entourages scrambling, recently aired on WE: Women’s Entertainment to strong ratings. Star Magazine selected the show as a Hot Pick, appreciating how it “shed[s] new light on the headline-making behavior of… starlets who have it all, and then some,” while the New York Post delighted in the “dish enough for a gossip banquet… a hoot and a half. Heaven.” The one-hour documentary was the first installment to the new series, Young, Sexy & …, produced by Atlas and set to air on WE: Women’s Entertainment.
Breaking Vegas, the blockbuster docu-movie inspired by the New York Times bestseller Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas For Millions, explores the rise and fall of the infamous MIT Blackjack team as they used their skill and luck to win, and lose, millions as Las Vegas high-rollers. Breaking Vegas, which airs on The History Channel, has been critically acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for its innovative “feature film” style, taking a riveting insider’s look at the whiz kids who almost had it all through the suspenseful art of card counting. Boston Herald called it “An engrossing new special…the stuff of high drama…” The Sun-Sentinel called it “A fast-paced documentary that’s as entertaining as a feature film…”
Atlas’ entertaining exploration of civilization through tools is showcased in the 13-episode series ToolBox, also airing on The History Channel. From the surprisingly precise tools of the Neanderthal man to the latest tools that build cities, explore our universe and operate factories, ToolBox puts a unique “how-to” spin on the surprisingly dynamic history of tools and how they shaped, and continue to shape, our world.
Hosted by sexy tool maven Sirena Irwin, the series debuted to solid ratings in its Saturday 6pm time slot.
This August, one of America’s most respected and charismatic forensic pathologists, Dr. Jan Garavaglia, will take viewers on an unprecedented look behind-the-scenes at the world of science, mystery and justice in Dr. G: Medical Examiner, a 13-episode series set to air on The Discovery Health Channel. Each one-hour episode will include actual, in-depth examinations and autopsies, as well as the exploration and investigative field work conducted by Dr. G and her team at the Orange-Osceola County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida.
Atlas’ current production slate boasts a variety of formats and genres: a prime time election special for The History Channel, hosted by pop humorist Mo Rocca; the lifestyle series All Year Round with Katie Brown; seasons 6 & 7 of the Food Network smash hit Top 5; a series of documentaries for The Weather Channel, one exploring a revolutionary new Global Earth Observation System, and the other revealing the effects of heat on our health; and multiple episodes of Biography, profiling iconic figures such as Frida Kahlo and Samuel Goldwyn.
“Our current program and production slate is pure Atlas – diverse, unique, and totally fresh,” said Bruce David Klein, President and Executive Producer, Atlas Media. “We are very excited by the strong audience response to our summer programs so far, and look forward to generating more buzz with our informative, innovative and sometimes controversial shows in the coming quarters.”
