TV RIGHTS TO ATLAS MEDIA CORP.’s ACCLAIMED THEATRICAL DOCUMENTARY “ROBERT BLECKER WANTS ME DEAD” SNAPPED UP BY MSNBC
NEW YORK, MARCH 24, 2009 – Atlas Media Corp. announced today that the U.S. television rights to its acclaimed theatrical documentary Robert Blecker Wants Me Dead have been sold to MSNBC. The announcement was made today by Atlas Media Corp.’s President and Executive Producer, Bruce David Klein. The film recently began its national theatrical rollout including New York and Washington, DC and received rave reviews from publications such as The New York Times (“compelling”) and the Washington Post (“fascinating”)
Robert Blecker Wants Me Dead documents one of the most unusual crusaders on the American scene: impassioned, pro-death penalty campaigner Robert Blecker, and his friendship with death row inmate Daryl Holton, confessed murderer of his own four children.
Blecker believes that “some people deserve to die and it’s our obligation to kill them.” Yet when he meets up with Holton, Blecker is shocked to find not only that Holton possesses a sharp legal mind and a wry wit, but also that Holton has not filed any of his permitted appeals. Is Holton himself an advocate of the death penalty? During the next 18 months these two men begin a puzzling yet engrossing friendship as the clock ticks towards an execution. The Atlas Media Corp. film is directed by Ted Schillinger and produced by Bruce David Klein. Executive producers are Kaki Kirby, Richard Abramawitz and Bruce David Klein.
On the festival circuit, Robert Blecker Wants Me Dead was screened at The 38th Annual USA Film Festival in Dallas, Texas, at Dallas’ Angelika Theater as part of the Festival’s eight day curated program featuring the best new American and foreign films, the Academy-qualified 30th Annual National Short Film and Video Competition, and special tributes. The film also screened at festivals in Rhode Island, Honolulu and Cork.
The release of the documentary comes on the heels of the company’s critically acclaimed Meat Loaf: In Search of Paradise, which was released in over 50 markets, and was also distributed on DVD by Universal DVD.
