ATLAS MEDIA CORP. PROMOTES LORRI LEIGHTON TO VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMMING
NEW YORK, JANUARY 21, 2009 — Atlas Media Corp., one of the country’s largest independent producers of high quality non-fiction programming and content, has promoted Lorri Leighton to vice president of programming, effective immediately. Based in the company’s New York headquarters, she’ll report directly to Cheryl Houser, EVP of programming.
“Lorri’s been a major asset since the first day she joined the Atlas Media family,” said Ms. Houser. “The combination of Lorri’s creative and managerial skills continues to be invaluable.”
Ms. Leighton has more than 10 years experience producing, writing and directing non-fiction programming. She has been with Atlas Media for the past three years, most recently serving as director of programming. In this role, she was in charge of supervising four Atlas Media series including: Dr. G Medical Examiner (Discovery Health), Game Show Hall of Fame (GSN) and Art Attack (Travel Channel). Her responsibilities have ranged from the hiring of crews and structuring production teams to schedules, budgets, overseeing all stages of pre-post production and show content. Before serving as director of programming, Ms. Leighton served as series producer for Atlas’ Dr. G: Medical Examiner and Skeleton Stories.
Prior to joining Atlas Media, Ms. Leighton served as both a senior producer and a producer at True Entertainment where she worked on Soap Center, A Baby Story (for which she won two Emmy Awards) and Mystery Diagnosis. She was also director / producer for the independent documentary short, Out of the Broom Closet.
While an associate producer at NYT Television she worked on The Real CIA: Enemies, Secrets and Spies, a one-hour documentary that aired on Showtime. As an associate producer for Florentine Films, she also worked on Alexander Calder for the long-running PBS series American Masters which focused on the life and art of the famed artist.
